Tom Fletcher is a Visiting Professor of International Relations at New York University, and an Advisor to the Global Business Coalition for Education and Emirates Diplomatic Academy. He was British Ambassador to Lebanon, and the Downing Street foreign policy adviser to three Prime Ministers. He is an Honorary Fellow of Oxford University, blogs as the Naked Diplomat, and chairs the International Advisory Council of the Creative Industries Federation, promoting Britain’s most dynamic and magnetic sector overseas. His first book, ‘Naked Diplomacy: Power and Statecraft in the Digital Age’ was published in 2016.
In the book Fletcher identifies three great challenges for the 21st-century diplomat. When and how should we intervene in other people’s wars? How do we build international institutions that are fit for purpose, notably the UN, which is often rendered powerless by competing big-power interests? And how do we reduce global inequality without destroying the plant?

The discussion will be led by Levente Nyitrai from LSE Alumni Association Hungary
